Bluegrass Karting’s Capable2Kart program was designed to offer karting to anyone with special needs. Not only do we feature a hand-controlled kart for individuals with physical disabilities such as paralysis, we are also able to assist individuals with mental disabilities. Our staff is able to assist individuals with Down Syndrome, Autism, and other forms of mental handicaps. As long as the individual is not scared to participate, a staff member can generally ride or walk alongside the kart and allow the individual to control their kart as much as they are able to do so.

Racing provides the chance to socialize, exercise, and compete. Many of us take for granted the ability to compete against one another and forget how competition assists with self-esteem and self-confidence. This type of camaraderie and competition can also improve physical health and remove the barriers certain individuals are bound to. Because of the high cost of living associated with any disability or injury, Bluegrass Karting will offer discounted or free racing for all disabled racers through Capable2Kart if individuals are unable to afford it.

The Capable2Kart hand-controlled kart provides benefits to those with lower extremity disabilties, such as paralysis, amputees, and Spina Bifida. Our kart is equipped with a twist-style throttle and hand brake, enabling both kids and adults with physical disabilities to compete side-by-side with able-bodied individuals. Approximately 1.9% of the U.S. population, or some 5,596,000 people, reported some form of paralysis. 54% of these were male and 46% female, and a staggering 7% of these were the result of injury suffered during military service…fighting for our freedoms.
